Juventus Identify Cheap Replacement for Out-of-Favor Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey continues to see very few minutes, and Juventus are looking forward to getting his lofty salary off the books. If they did not find a buyer in January, they would attempt to come to terms to rescind his contract. He is highly unlikely to be on the roster after the next window, Calciomercato.com reports.

Massimiliano Allegri tested him as a deep-lying playmaker in the early going. However, he did not repeat the experiment afterward. Also due to physical problems, Ramsey has played just six minutes in the last month and a half. He has made only five appearances thus far, with one start.

Ramsey has fallen at the bottom of the pecking order in the midfield and is no longer a resource for the Bianconeri. On the other hand, he makes nearly €8M, which is burdensome for their balance sheets. He is under contract until June 2023. Unless a team wooed him in January, the Old Lady would probably have to pay a sizeable severance package to part ways with him.

Juventus will have a meager budget to replace Ramsey. The most likely candidate remains Axel Witsel. The 32-year-old has only six months left on his deal with Borussia Dortmund. He could transfer for a low fee, Bild reports. Allegri is keen on adding a veteran to the midfield, which currently lacks experience. The Belgian international was already linked with a move to Turin in the past. The Bianconeri pursued him before he moved to China a few years ago.
