Juventus in the Midst of All-Time Poor Start and Negative Goal Streak

Juventus are in third-to-last place after four matches, having collected just two points. Only Salernitana have done worse thus far. It is the fourth time in their history they do not manage to win in any of the first four Serie A games. It happened in 1961-1962, 1955-1956, and 1942-1943. They did not celebrate the Scudetto in any of those campaigns, Opta indicates.

Massimiliano Allegri started slowly in 2015-2016, but Juventus stormed back and triumphed thanks to an impressive winning streak. However, they are behind schedule compared to that year too. They had picked up the first victory in Round 4 against Genoa.

As pointed out by Alessandro Del Piero, Juventus got the lead in three out of four tilts, but the opponents always came back. They dropped seven points in those instances. “It is something it did not use to happen before. They controlled most of the game, but not the final 30 minutes. I think Allegri wants to build a team capable of defending when they need to. Then they have some difference-makers that can do damage up front,”  the legend added.

Instead, Juventus have conceded at least a goal in 18 straight Serie A matches. It is a negative record in the top five European leagues, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports. They have alternated their various center-backs, but the problems have not stemmed from such position but rather from howlers or collective mistakes. The lone clean sheet thus far has come in Champions League versus Malmo.
