Juventus Join Inter in Hunt for Monza Talisman

Juventus have reportedly joined arch-rivals Inter in a keenly-contested pursuit of highly-rated Monza wing-back Carlos Augusto. Calciomercato reports Massimiliano Allegri’s men will challenge the Nerazzurri for the Brazilian’s signature.

Inter have been in pole position to sign Augusto this summer. Despite rejecting Wolfsburg’s opening bid for Robin Gosens, Beppe Marotta is keen to sell the 28-year-old German in the coming weeks. He has identified the 24-year-old Monza star as the ex-Atalanta man’s heir.

Augusto went from strength to strength in 2022/23. He stole the limelight as Monza’s standout performer in the club’s maiden Serie A season. His tally of six goals and five assists in 35 league appearances hasn’t gone under the radar. The Italian big guns now want to prise him away from the Brianteo.

Down to the final year of his contract at Monza, Augusto seems destined to halt his three-year association with the Lombard club. Raffaele Palladino’s men have brought in versatile full-back Georgios Kyriakopoulos on loan from Sassuolo in anticipation of Augusto’s departure.

Juventus need reinforcements on the flanks. In addition to losing Juan Cuadrado to Inter on a free transfer, their aging defenders don’t inspire much confidence. Alex Sandro and Danilo are on the wrong side of 30, while Luca Pellegrini and Andrea Cambiaso look close to leaving.

However, Juventus are behind Inter in the race to sign the coveted Monza man. Without the incentive of European football after being banned from the Conference League, Allegri’s men could be lacking the means to overtake the Nerazzurri
