Juventus Join Race for Top-Class Premier League Center-Back

Juventus have reportedly joined the race for the outgoing Chelsea center-back Antonio Rudiger, who will be out of contract at the end of the season. According to JuventusNews24, the Bianconeri are ready to challenge the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid for the German’s signature.

Rudiger has established himself as one of the most highly-rated defenders in European football during his five-year spell at Chelsea. The 29-year-old was an integral part of Thomas Tuchel’s side that sailed to Champions League glory last season, forging a formidable defensive partnership with Thiago Silva and Andreas Christiansen.

Despite carrying his impressive form into the 2021/22 campaign, Rudiger seems hell-bent on securing a new challenge away from Stamford Bridge come the summer transfer window. His eye-catching showings have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona and Real Madrid both giving serious thoughts to launching contract offers at the end of the season.

However, Juventus are ready to hijack the Spaniards’ efforts to lure Rudiger away from the Premier League. Known for an unparalleled ability to sign top-class players without making substantial financial sacrifices, the record-time Italian champions have identified the ex-Roma star as a perfect defensive addition.

Juventus have yet to understand the future of Matthijs de Ligt, who has emerged as a transfer target for Barcelona. Represented by the notorious agent Mino Raiola, the Dutchman has refused to commit his future to the Allianz Stadium. There is no doubt that Raiola is leaning towards taking his client away from Serie A, which could be a problem for the Bianconeri.

If Raiola manages to broker De Ligt’s switch to Camp Nou, Massimiliano Allegri could find himself short of defensive options. Juventus will likely wave goodbye to long-serving captain Giorgio Chiellini at the end of the season. Leonardo Bonucci is well past his prime, while Daniele Rugani has failed to develop his potential.

Therefore, Juventus are understandably on the lookout for a new centre-back to hold the line next season. Given Rudiger’s outstanding career at Chelsea and his previous experience in Serie A, it is not surprising that the Turin heavyweights are interested in taking him back to Italy.
