Juventus Join Race with Napoli to Purchase Getafe Left-Back

Napoli came within an inch to signing Mathias Olivera in January, but Getafe did not let him go, and Juventus have joined the fray. The Bianconeri are scouting multiple options for the position as they are eager to move on from Alex Sandro.

According to Marca, the Old Lady reached out to the agents of the left-back in the last few days. He has been one of the best performers in his role in La Liga despite his team’s struggles this season. Los Azulones refused to part ways with him in the previous window as they needed him to avoid relegation. The player did not insist to leave and stayed to help out his side.

Contrary to previous reports, the defender is under contract until 2025. Napoli were rumored to have come to terms on an €11M fee, but they and Juventus would have to activate a €20M release clause to sign Olivera, the Spanish publication informs. The Partenopei remain in the lead, but they are facing more competition than in the last couple of months. Atletico Madrid are also after the 24-year-old.

The Bianconeri wish to find a taker for Alex Sandro and his massive wages. They have been linked to a few targets lately, such as Renan Lodi, Udinese’s Destiny Udogie, and Genoa’s Andrea Cambiaso. Juventus have added Olivera to the list and will rival Napoli. The Uruguayan international has scored once and provided 2 assists in 22 appearances with Getafe in 2021-2022. He moved to Spain in 2017 debuted with La Celeste in January.
