Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri feels part of the Allianz Stadium faithful let Bianconeri down during a 2-2 draw against Atalanta. In the most exciting match-up of Serie A Gameweek 28, familiar foes shared the spoils in an enthralling contest.
Teun Koopmeiners ran the show in Turin as he opened the scoring to hand Atalanta a halftime lead before rescuing a point for his side after Andrea Cambiaso and Arkadiusz Milik turned things around for Juventus. Despite making several changes to ignite Bianconeri’s late push, Allegri failed to grab three points.
Atalanta’s stoic defending down the final stretch saw them hold Juventus to a sixth winless league outing in their last seven (D3, L3). Another underwhelming result has demoted the record-time Italian champions to third in the standings, with Milan’s 1-0 home win against Empoli earlier in the day firing them to second.
More importantly, Juventus are now 17 points off table-topping Inter. As things stand, they’ll have to settle for a top-four finish and a return to the Champions League after a season-long absence. They were part of the Scudetto conversations until recently, but that’s no longer a realistic prospect.
The team’s recent downturn in form has seen them lose fans’ trust, and Allegri believes one part of the stadium didn’t help his side’s cause tonight.
“The lads did very well in an atmosphere where part of the stadium did not help us, especially in the first half,” the Juventus manager said, as quoted by Pazzi di Fanta. “There are areas where we can do better, but the effort and desire was never lacking from this team.“
