Juventus and Danilo could reportedly decide to part ways by mutual consent this winter after the Brazilian lost his place in the starting XI. According to Calciomercato via Tuttojuve, the possibility of a contract termination is gaining momentum, with the 33-year-old contemplating a January exit.
Danilo has been an irremovable object of Juve’s defense for years. His defensive prowess and leadership skills have made him the captain following Leonardo Bonucci’s departure. Capable of covering multiple roles at the back, he has become a stalwart for Juventus.
However, his fortunes have changed upon Thiago Motta’s appointment. The new Juventus boss has deemed the former Manchester City defender surplus to requirements. Motta has handed the club’s long-serving star only five minutes of Serie A action in the first four rounds.
Pierre Kalulu and Nicolo Savona have been Motta’s preferred choices at right-back, while Gleison Bremer and Federico Gatti remain his starting center-back pairing. As such, Danilo’s future at Juventus is hanging by a thread. Many still expect him to feature more prominently in the coming weeks.
But if the situation doesn’t change, the Brazil international could depart the Allianz Stadium after five years. Danilo’s contract in Turin runs out at the end of the season. An early termination would allow Juventus to save around €5.2 million in gross wages.
Meanwhile, Danilo would be free to choose his next destination, with lucrative proposals from Saudi Arabia beckoning for the Selecao skipper. Even without their veteran star, Juventus remain the only team in Serie A yet to concede this season after a 0-0 draw at Empoli on Saturday.
