Juventus Lose Star Center-Back For a Fortnight

Juventus captain Danilo faces two weeks on the sidelines after picking up an injury against Hellas Verona on Saturday. According to the club’s official website (via Gianluca Di Marzio), the Brazilian defender suffered an ankle trauma that will keep him away from the pitch for a fortnight.

Danilo limped off the pitch in the latter stages of play as Juventus fought back twice to hold Verona 2-2 at Marc’Antonio Bentegodi. The 32-year-old underwent detailed medical examinations to determine the extent of the damage this morning.

In a statement released by Juventus, it says Danilo “underwent radiological examinations carried out have ruled out the presence of ligament capsulus injuries and fractures of the left ankle.”

The veteran ace has already embarked on a rehabilitation program to accelerate his return to action. In Danilo’s absence, Daniele Rugani should partner up with Federico Gatti and Gleison Bremer in Massimiliano Allegri’s back three.

The latter missed out on Saturday’s contest due to suspension. However, he’ll rejoin the squad when Juventus take on promoted Frosinone at the Allianz Stadium next weekend. Condemned to a fourth consecutive Serie A game without a win, Bianconeri are no longer viable candidates in the Scudetto race.

Juventus have fallen nine points below pacesetters Inter, who demolished Salernitana 4-0 on Friday. However, the Turin club should steamroll to a top-four finish after opening up a substantial 12-point gap on fifth-placed Bologna.

Allegri’s side will, nonetheless, be under pressure against Frosinone amid their worst patch of 2023/24.
