Juventus Not Close to PSG Striker Despite Morata Situation

Juventus see Mauro Icardi as an ideal replacement for Alvaro Morata, but they are not on the brink of signing him from PSG as recent rumors suggest. The Spaniard seems destined to join Barcelona, but the Bianconeri want to find another striker before allowing him to leave.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Massimiliano Allegri is a big fan of the Argentinian striker, but the Old Lady has only a meager budget. The departure of Morata would not free up too many resources. They will save €5M on the fee for the loan from Atletico Madrid, plus his remaining wages.

It will not be easy for Juventus to come to terms with PSG. The French club is not too keen on letting the Argentinian striker go. Despite their abundance of talent, they do not have too many options up front. Neymar will miss extended time with an ankle injury, and Lionel Messi just got COVID. The ex-Inter forward is a valuable backup and their only pure goal poacher.

The Bianconeri will have to make a substantial proposal to convince the counterpart. They would have to offer a sizeable sum for the loan, commit to paying the full salary and give strong guarantees they will buy Icardi out. The player himself prefers to transfer on a somewhat permanent basis. Juventus are expected to get in touch with PSG later this week to start negotiating. According to AS, Barcelona have almost reached agreement for Morata, and his arrival in Barcelona is just a matter of days.
