Juventus Offset Investments on Fees with Lower Payroll

Juventus went above and beyond to shore up their squad last summer, signing Douglas Luiz, Nico Gonzalez, Khepren Thuram, and Teun Koopmeiners in big-money deals. The return to the Champions League, and its new and more profitable format, was a big factor in their economic turnaround, as they had spent almost nothing in the past two windows.

Per La Stampa, the Bianconeri wiped large salaries off their books. They saved €75M from the departures of Wojciech Szczesny, Alex Sandro, Adrien Rabiot, Federico Chiesa, Daniele Rugani, and Moise Kean. Plus, Paul Pogba’s salary is minimal following his doping-related suspension. They also parted ways with a host of youngsters and misfits.

The combined wages of the newcomers aren’t as burdensome, so the payroll will be €14M lower. After 11 years at the top, they ceded the leadership to Inter in that respect.

According to Calcio Finanza, despite dealing and wheeling during the summer, the cost of the Bianconeri squad is similar to last season factoring the amortizations. It’s technically worth 300k less than the 2023/2024 roster. Its cost would further decrease if they found a solution for Filip Kostic or Arthur. Cristiano Giuntoli negotiated at length in some instances to tread the needle financially.

Our Take on Juventus

It’s quite surprising considering the amount of money they poured into the transfer market, but they obviously knew what they were doing. The cherry on top would be negotiating a new contract with Dusan Vlahovic, who has reached astronomical figures due to some previous clauses and bonuses. The issue sticks out even more since they have been cautious with wages in recent months.
