Juventus Open Negotiation to Extend De Ligt Contract

On top of making an offer for Paul Pogba, Juventus discussed the future of Matthijs De Ligt with his representative Rafaela Pimenta, who heads the firm of the late Mino Raiola. The Bianconeri wish to prolong his contract to make sure he stays.

The defender is tied to the club until 2024. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the brass proposed to tack on two more years. It does not appear his wages would change, but the move would still help them with the balance sheets. And it would give the club more leverage in case of offers.

Giorgio Chiellini anointed De Ligt as his Juventus heir in his farewell speech. His €125M release clause, which was agreed upon when he joined, will come into effect this summer. The Bianconeri would sell him only for bids that come close to such figure, Alfredo Pedullà informs. However, there will need to be further meetings to finalize his new contract. The parties did not fully come to terms yesterday.

De Ligt is the highest-paid player on the Juventus roster. He has an €8M base salary, with easily achievable bonuses that push it to €11-12M. The management and the lawyer also discussed a potential swap deal involving Moise Kean. The striker would return to PSG after being bought out early by the Bianconeri, who would get Leandro Paredes in return. According to Pedullà, the youngster is only technically on loan from Everton. The Old Lady will pay €28M to redeem him, either this summer or in 2023.
