After an extravagant recruitment campaign in the summer, Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli is reluctant to put the brakes on his effort to build a Scudetto-winning squad. According to TMW, Giuntoli has opened talks with the representatives of outgoing Lille talisman Jonathan David to beat fierce competition to the punch.
David’s contract at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy runs out at the end of the season. He has already informed Lille of his intention to continue his career elsewhere, putting numerous top European clubs on red alert, including Juventus.
Inter, Milan, and Napoli hold a long-term interest in the Canada international. However, Juventus are keen to bring David to the Allianz Stadium on a free transfer next summer. As such, Giuntoli has already laid down the groundwork for the 24-year-old’s arrival.
Juventus wouldn’t have to reach out to their wallet to convince Lille to sell their best player. But that doesn’t mean David would come cheap. His agent asked for a substantial €5m signing bonus last summer. On top of that, the player has a massive wage demand nearing €6m per season.
Giuntoli seems ready to pay the price after failing to find an alternative for Dusan Vlahovic over the summer. That could return to haunt Juventus further down the line unless the Serbian center-forward gets back on track soon.
Heavily criticized for his lackluster start to the season, Vlahovic has failed to score in five of his six competitive appearances for Juventus in 2024/25.
