Juventus won’t hire outside executives for the time being, but they restructured their staff after Federico Cherubini was handed a 16-month suspension in the capital gains trial. Francesco Calvo has been promoted to chief football officer, which was Fabio Paratici’s previous role, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.
Cherubini maintains his position as football director and will offer his advice. However, he can’t formally operate in the transfer market nor represent the team. Calvo originally joined the club in 2011 on the business side. He climbed the corporate ladder until becoming chief revenue officer in 2014. He left the team due to a personal feud with Andrea Agnelli, spending time at Barcelona and Roma in similar roles afterward. The exec eventually mended fences with the president and returned in Turin as the chief of staff in April 2022.
According to Calciomercato, he’ll have a pivotal role since CEO Maurizio Scanavino, who had stern words on the recent sentence, also has other tasks in the companies owned by John Elkann. The move was in the works regardless of Cherubini’s suspension. Juventus will now have to formally indicate a new sporting director to the federation. All signals point toward Giovanni Manna, who’s currently managing the Next Gen team.
Our Take on the New Juventus Staff
The shakeup likely suggests the Bianconeri won’t do anything in January, but also that they will indeed go after seasoned executives currently in other teams down the line. They lack somebody with elite football experience at the top.
