Juventus manager Thiago Motta has deemed the United States international surplus to requirements. As a result, Juventus tried to include the 25-year-old in a complex swap deal to land Douglas Luiz. Though Aston Villa accepted the former Schalke 04 midfielder as a counterpart, the player refused a switch to Birmingham.

While McKennie didn’t have a flashy season, it was a very good one. He put in the work defensively and made a ton of progress tactically. He can certainly be useful to Juve this coming season.
