Juventus Pariah Douglas Costa Headed to the United States

Douglas Costa has terminated his loan spell at Gremio early, but, as expected, he will not be back at Juventus. The attacker will finalize his move to the Los Angeles Galaxy over the weekend. The MLS franchise staved off a late attempt by Flamengo, Calciomercato.com reports.

The 31-year-old collected 26 appearances, recording 3 goals and 2 assists with the Imortal Tricolar in 2021. However, their season ended with a shocking relegation, and he elected to depart. He will transfer to the United States with the same formula used in his most recent stint.

Douglas Costa is likely to pen a two-year contract with the Galaxy once his deals with Juventus runs out in June, Sky Sport informs. He has not been in Turin since 2020 as he also spent a campaign on loan to Bayern Munich. The American team should take care of his lofty wages for the next six months, as Gremio were doing beforehand.

The Brazilian was one of the most expensive acquisitions in the recent history of the Bianconeri. They paid €46M to sign him from the Bavarian giants in 2017. However, he has been continuously hit by injury and put together just one solid season in Serie A. He hit the net 4 times and logged 12 assists in 2017-2018. He was not as effective and present in his two following campaigns with the Old Lady. Douglas Costa accumulated total 103 appearances with Juventus, hitting the net 10 times and setting up 21 teammates. He contributed to winning three Scudetti.
