Juventus completed a sensational come-from-behind victory at the expense of RB Leipzig to maintain a perfect record in the Champions League. Benjamin Sesko gave the German side the lead in the first half much to the delight of the home supporters at the Red Bull Arena. Dusan Vlahovic replied for the visitors, but Sesko restored the hosts’ lead from the spot. But despite their numerical disadvantage, the Bianconeri still pulled off an astonishing comeback thanks to a brilliant long-range strike from Vlahovic and an astounding solo effort from Francisco Conceicao. So here are our player ratings for Juventus who rallied from behind to register a 3-2 win in Leipzig.
Juventus (4-2-3-1)
Michele Di Gregorio – 4.5
The former Monza man was left with no chance on the opener. He was unfortunate to touch the ball with his hand while rushing off his line, leaving his side with a man down.
Nicolò Savona – 6
The youngster looked composed at the back, but Thiago Motta decided to drop him following the red card.
Pierre Kalulu – 7.5
A robust display at the back from the Frenchman who produced a host of vital interceptions. He’s already establishing himself as a protagonist at the club.
Gleison Bremer – N/A
The Juventus captain only lasted for five minutes before sustaining a knock and leaving his place on the pitch for Gatti along with the armband.
Andrea Cambiaso – 6.5
The Italy international was always going to lose the physical duel against Sesko in the lead-up to the first goal. He also had some blunders at the back. On the other hand, he delivered the assist for Vlahovic’s first goal and made a brilliant interception.
Weston McKennie – 7
A generous outing from the American who was everywhere on the pitch. He made an inch-perfect tackle to win back the ball which culminated in the winner.
Nicolò Fagioli – 7.5
A formidable display in the middle of the park from the Italian who was pulling the strings for Juventus while showcasing his dribbling and passing skills.
Nico Gonzalez – N/A
A few minutes following Bremer’s exit, Juventus were dealt with another blow, as the Argentine left the field with what seemed to be a muscular problem.
Teun Koopmeiners – 6
The Dutchman still lacks the killer instinct from his Atalanta days. He was unlucky to see his shot crash off the post
Kenan Yildiz – 5.5
When Di Gregorio saw red, the Turkish teenager was the obvious sacrificial lamb, which is telling enough. His impact on the left wing was very limited.
Dusan Vlahovic – 9
A magical evening for the Serbian who expertly latched on Cambiaso’s square ball to flick it past the goalkeeper. He then dragged the 10-man Juventus back into the match once more with a jaw-dropping strike.
Substitutes
Federico Gatti – 6.5
A solid display at the back from the Italian who came in early due to Bremer’s injury. Had some nervous moments, but the pros outweighed the cons.
Francisco Conceicao – 8.5
After scoring his first Serie A goal over the weekend, the Portuguese has now cemented himself as a hero among Juventus supporters with his maiden Champions League. He dribbled past his markers before drilling the ball past the goalkeeper to complete a historic comeback. Also instigated Vlahovic’s first goal.
Mattia Perin – 7
The shot-stopper conceded from the spot upon his introduction, but was always well-positioned to produce routine saves and maintain the Old Lady’s lead.
Douglas Luiz – 4
The Brazilian gave away a spot kick seconds following his introduction while protecting his face with his hand, and his cameo never got off the ground. Gave the ball away cheaply and wasn’t on song with his teammates.
