Juventus Player Ratings vs Nantes: Superb Chiesa Not Enough

Following a disastrous Champions League campaign, Juventus got demoted to the Europa League, and they began their new adventure by hosting Nantes in the first leg of the playoff round. Massimiliano Allegri’s opted for a relatively attacking formation, and his golden trio combined to break the deadlock. Nonetheless, the Bianconeri couldn’t grab another goal despite a flurry of chances, and Ludovic Blas snatched a second-half equalizer for the French side from a swift counter attack. So here are our player ratings for Juventus who registered a disappointing 1-1 draw against Nantes at home, setting up a fiery second leg next week.

Juventus (4-3-3)

Wojciech Szczesny – 6

The Pole had little to do besides picking up the ball from his own net following the equalizer. Could do nothing about Blas’ venomous strike.

Mattia De Sciglio – 5.5

The former Milan man provided little to none on the offensive phase, and wasn’t entirely convincing at the back.

Danilo – 6

The Juventus captain earned a booking for a tactical foul, but was mostly solid at the back. However, he should have done better in front of goal, as he sent his volley to the stands.

Gleison Bremer – 6

The Brazilian did well against Mostafa Mohamed, but lost his balance ahead of Blas’ winner. The VAR thought he earned a last-minute spot kick, but the main official judged it as a foul on the centre-back.

Alex Sandro – 6

A decent display from the former Porto man who combined well with Chiesa

Nicolò Fagioli – 5.5

The young midfielder started on a positive note, but his performance didn’t pick up afterwards. He was arguably one of the culprits on the equalizer.

Leandro Paredes – 5.5

It wasn’t a terrible outing by any means, but the Old Lady’s supporters are expecting so much more from the world champion. His passing was hit-and-miss.

Adrien Rabiot – 6

A vibrant display from the Frenchman who ran hard all match, but his technical touch let him down inside the final third.

Angel Di Maria – 7

A wonderful first half from the veteran who instigated the opener with an inch-perfect cross towards Chiesa. He also threatened Alban Lafont on two occasions, but his impact dwindled after the break.

Dusan Vlahovic – 6.5

The Serbian scored a target man’s goal and then picked up Chiesa inside the box, but this is where his highlight reel ends.

Federico Chiesa – 7.5

An impressive display from the former Fiorentina man who laid the ball to Vlahovic with a clever header. Was extremely unlucky not to score when his vicious strike hit the woodwork, the goal line, and finally the post. Picked up Sandro and Danilo with exquisite plays.

Substitutes

Manuel Locatelli – 6

A combative display from the Italian in the middle of the park, but was reluctant to shoot when provided with the opportunity.

Filip Kostic – 5.5

The Serbian fought hard to retrieve and maintain the ball, but his crossing wasn’t always on cue.

Juan Cuadrado – 5.5

The Colombian lost his footing when Locatelli set him up with a pass. But he delivered the cross which could have prompted the last-minute winner.

Matias Soulé – 5.5

The young Argentine replaced his compatriot Di Maria, but saw little of the ball. Couldn’t direct his shot on target.

Moise Kean – N/A
