Juventus Player Ratings vs Roma: Underwhelming Di Maria, Mad Kean

On Sunday, the Olimpico Stadium hosted the most-anticipated tilt of the Calcio weekend, as Roma and Juventus clashed heads in the Italian capital. Although the Bianconeri had the biggest share of scoring opportunities, Gianluca Mancini’s long-range strike sealed the win in favor of the hosts. So here are our player ratings for Juventus who return home empty-handed following a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Roma.

Juventus (3-5-1-1)

Wojciech Szczesny – 6

The Polish shot-stopper pulled off two decent saves on Paulo Dybala and Chris Smalling, but some will suggest that he could have done better in tracking Mancini’s shot.

Danilo – 6.5

A solid all-round display from the Brazilian who looked untroubled at the back while making important contribution in the attacking phase. Picked up Rabiot with a sublime cross.

Gleison Bremer – 6.5

A solid performance at the back from the former Torino man who kept Dybala and Tammy Abraham in check for the largest part of the match.

Alex Sandro – 6

The Brazilian had a decent first half. Did well at the back and surged forward on some occasions. However, he was nowhere to be seen after the interval most likely due to a knock.

Juan Cuadrado – 6

The Colombian had an interesting duel against Leonardo Spinazzola, finding mild success in the process. Raced back to make a perfectly-timed interception against his former Juventus teammate.

Nicolò Fagioli – 5.5

The young Italian had a tough task on his hand as went against the vastly-experienced Nemanja Matic. Though he had his moments, it wasn’t his best outing, and was sacrificed when Max Allegri needed an extra attacker after conceding the opener.

Manuel Locatelli – 6

The former Sassuolo man sustained an early yellow which might have hindered his movement. But still threatened with two long-range efforts while making important interventions at the back.

Adrien Rabiot – 5.5

The Frenchman should have done better with his header in front of goal which was tipped to the post by Rui Patricio. Moreover, he wasn’t interested in closing down Mancini ahead of the winner.

Filip Kostic – 5.5

The winger had the better of Nicola Zalewski on a few occasions, but couldn’t deliver the right ball to the box. The Romans demanded his dismissal following an unnecessary late challenge on Roger Ibanez.

Angel Di Maria – 5.5

The former PSG man tested Patricio with a shot late in the match, but it was an underwhelming outing overall. Wasted two decent freekicks and couldn’t connect well with his teammates.

Dusan Vlahovic – 5.5

The Serbian started on a relatively positive note, bringing his teammates into play, but for one reason or another, he seemed reluctant to shoot, preferring to pass the ball despite being in the right position to try his luck at goal.

Substitutes

Leonardo Bonucci – 6

A good display from the captain who orchestrated the play from the back as a sweeper. Made some vital interceptions at the back as well.

Federico Chiesa – 5

A forgettable cameo from the Italian who wasted possession on crucial instances. Tried his luck with a late curler but to no avail.

Paul Pogba – 6.5

A positive outing from the Frenchman who brought some rhythm to the middle of the park.

Leandro Paredes – 5.5

Not a terrible performance by any means, but the Argentine isn’t adding much to Juventus this season.

Moise Kean – 1

The striker only lasted for a couple of minutes before falling into Mancini’s trap and receiving his marching orders for a deliberate kick. Shocking.
