Juventus Player Ratings vs Sevilla: Gatti the Unlikely Super-Sub

At the Allianz Stadium in Turin, Juventus hosted Sevilla in the first leg of the Europa League semi-final. In a match of two halves, the Andalusians were the better side in the first half and took a well-deserved lead through Yossef Nesyri who finished a swift counter-attack. While Massimiliano Allegri’s substitutions improved the Bianconeri’s display, the home crowd had to wait until the 97th minute to celebrate Federico Gatti’s equalizer. So here are our player ratings for Juventus who will now head to Sevilla for the second leg on level terms following the 1-1 draw.

Juventus (3-5-1-1)

Wojciech Szczesny – 6.5

The former Roma custodian made some important saves, but was wrong-footed on the opener.

Danilo – 6.5

An unyielding performance from the Juventus vice-captain who made a flurry of interceptions and clearances throughout the match.

Leonardo Bonucci – 5.5

It wasn’t a terrible display from the Italian veteran, but he was caught out of position on Sevilla’s goal. His night ended prematurely after sustaining a knock.

Alex Sandro – 5.5

The Brazilian once again struggled in aerial duels, but his performance improved in the second half when he returned to his natural left-back position.

Juan Cuadrado – 6

The Colombian scarcely darted forward as he was pegged back by the young Bryan Gil. But did well to earn fouls with his dribbling

Fabio Miretti – 5.5

A forgettable first half for the Italian teenager who was hauled off at halftime. Ran hard but was wasteful on the ball

Manuel Locatelli – 6

A hard-working display as always from the former Sassuolo man who also helped his teammates advance the ball.

Adrien Rabiot – 6

An industrious outing from the Frenchman who ran all over the pitch, but it still wasn’t his most influential performance.

Filip Kostic – 5.5

The Europa League MVP was the author of the most dangerous Juventus chance in the first half, but couldn’t hit the target. Picked up Vlahovic on a couple of occasions but the latter was in an offside position. He only lasted for one half.

Angel Di Maria – 5

The Argentine was arguably the biggest letdown for Juventus on Thursday. Failed to inspire dangerous plays and was complacent on the ball.

Dusan Vlahovic – 5

To his credit, the Serbian had all the desire in the world to score, but he couldn’t place the ball in the net even when in an offside position.

Substitutes

Federico Chiesa – 5.5

The Italian shifted between the right and the left wing, but struggled to make an impact. Nonetheless, his corner kick sparked the equalizer.

Samuel Iling-Junior – 6

An exciting cameo from the Juventus youngster who threatened Yassine Bounou with a long-range shot and also managed to dribble his way into the box on one occasion

Federico Gatti – 6.5

The former Frosinone man was hardly tested at the back after replacing the injured Leonardo Bonucci, but proved to be the unlikely last-gasp hero by nodding the equalizer home from close range.

Arkadiusz Milik – 5.5

The Pole replaced Vlahovic but the impact was similar. In his defense, he wasn’t provided with any inviting chances.

Paul Pogba – 6.5

The Frenchman displayed some nice flicks and tricks before providing the assist with a clever header in what was an influential cameo.
