Juventus Plot Unexpected Sale to Fund Berardi Deal

Juventus haven’t given up the ambitious idea of bringing Sassuolo marquee winger Domenico Berardi back to the Allianz Stadium. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has devised a strategy to raise funds for the Italian’s return.

Berardi emerged as one of Massimiliano Allegri’s top targets during the transfer window just finished. However, Juventus couldn’t strike a deal with Sassuolo, with the forward’s €30 million price tag fending off the Turin giants’ attempts to prise him away from the Mapei Stadium.

It already backfired on Juventus as Berardi struck home in Sassuolo’s scintillating 4-2 romping of Allegri’s charges last weekend. The star winger maintained his free-scoring form against Serie A big guns, completing a comeback 2-1 win over Inter in midweek top-flight action.

His formidable form at the start of the new campaign has reassured Juventus of his undisputed quality. But raising funds could be a tricky business. Someone has to go to make room for Berardi’s arrival. Paul Pogba is the likeliest suspect after being suspended from the team.

The Frenchman has found himself at the center of a doping scandal. But Juventus must manage that situation carefully, forcing the club to consider other sales. Despite being linked with a contract renewal only a week ago, super-talented Samuel Iling-Junior could fall victim to Bianconeri’s pursuit of Berardi.

While it’s not like Juventus are in a hurry to get rid of their prodigious Englishman, numerous Premier League sides are ready to open their checkbooks to sign the 19-year-old. His price tag conveniently stands at €25m, which would pay Berardi’s return almost in full.
