Juventus Plotting Summer Bid for Household Serie A Winger

After parting company with Angel Di Maria following a season-long relationship, Juventus look back at the market for a replacement. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi is the frontrunner to fill the Argentine’s shoes at the Allianz Stadium.

Replacing a player of Di Maria’s quality could be an arduous task. Despite joining Juventus in the autumn of his career, the left-footed forward was a difference-maker on multiple occasions last term. And now, there’s a gaping hole in the attacking department begging to be filled.

Berardi is one of the rare Serie A players that could make up for Di Maria’s exit. For starters, they’re both left-footed. But more importantly, the 28-year-old’s technical skills, crossing ability, and shooting range bear much resemblance to the veteran superstar. Plus, the numbers are there.

Spanning back to 2019/20, Berardi has hit double-digits in terms of goals in every Serie A season. Not even an injury-plagued campaign in 2022/23 prevented him from tallying 12 goals and seven assists in Italy’s top flight. It seems Juventus have paid close attention as they look to rekindle their interest in the Italy international.

Berardi is no stranger to Turin. He was under contract at Juventus between 2013 and 2015. But he never made a single league appearance for the record-time Italian champions.

New sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli will assume the reins next week, and the Italian winger could be his first coup in Turin. Juventus unveiled Timothy Weah as their first summer signing on Saturday. But there’s still much left to do after Massimiliano Allegri’s men failed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in over a decade.
