Juventus Poised to Offer Formal Position to Del Piero

Juventus are ready to take up Alessandro Del Piero on his offer to help the club. The new course of the Bianconeri wish to enroll a club legend or a former player to replace Pavel Nedved as the deputy president. The former winger stepped down along with Andrea Agnelli.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the new chairman Gianluca Ferrero plots to hand the position to the long-time captain. The management will have further additions to assist sporting director Federico Cherubini and coach Massimiliano Allegri. Ex-goalie Marco Storari, who’s currently helping with the development of youngsters, could get a promotion.

Juventus will name their new board members by Christmas, and Del Piero will make the list, if he accepts. He’s currently in Doha to follow the World Cup as a pundit for Bein Sport. As he said, he still has a house in Turin. However, he mostly spends time in the United States to tend to his football academies and other businesses.

Pinturicchio is reportedly tempted, but he will pose some conditions. He’d be happy to return to the club, but not in a token role or just as an ambassador. He would like to have real decisional power. His model is Paolo Maldini, who has plenty of responsibilities at Milan.

Our Take on Juventus and Del Piero

The Bianconeri will most likely bring in somebody similar to Nedved, who had gained a lot of managerial experience and was the link between the squad and the front office. The trick with former legends is that, while their passion for the team is undeniable, it’s not a given that they are actually competent executives.
