Juventus Ponder Options to Zhuzh Up Their Defense

Juventus will make some changes to their defense in the summer, but there’s no clear favorite to bolster it at this stage. They are very keen on Riccardo Calafiori, but he’s pricey. Moreover, Bologna will be in a much better position to keep their cornerstones should they qualify for the Champions League.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Felsinei want at least €25M for their pillar. The Bianconeri will make an attempt, perhaps offering Facundo Gonzalez, who’s been okay while on loan to Sampdoria.

On top of Calafiori, Juventus have earmarked Lloyd Kelly, who’ll be out of contract in June, and Reinildo Maldava to potentially shore up their defense. The latter is tied to Atletico Madrid until 2025. They have been following him since his Lille days.

The Old Lady will move on from Alex Sandro and need to agree to a deal with Daniele Rugani to retain him. They could simply promote Dean Huijsen, who’s been fine at Roma. They value him €30/35M and will evaluate the incoming bids.

Our Take on the Future Juventus Defense

The call about the coach comes first, as the choice between a three or a four-man line is crucial from a roster construction standpoint. On the other hand, taking for granted they’ll keep Gleison Bremer, Federico Gatti, Danilo, and probably Rugani and that Tiago Djaló will have a bigger role, they could just stand pat and lean on Huijsen. They wouldn’t have a left-footed specialist, but it wouldn’t be a huge problem.
