After losing Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal, Juventus have identified Jean-Clair Todibo as their top defensive priority for the summer. But they must get Dean Huijsen off their books before they can accelerate talks with OGC Nice.
According to Calciomercato, Juventus must sell the young center-back, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Roma, to raise funds for Todibo. Despite enjoying a decent spell at the Stadio Olimpico, Huijsen failed to secure a permanent move to Rome.
He returned to Juventus at the end of last season. New manager Thiago Motta has even called him up for Herzogenaurach’s training camp in Germany. However, that’s only a mask. The record-time Serie A champions have put the 19-year-old up for sale.
Juventus must bolster their bank accounts after an aggressive recruitment campaign at the start of the summer. They’ve put Huijsen on the chopping block, with Bundesliga giants Wolfsburg and Stuttgart setting their sights on the Spain U21 international.
Huijsen’s departure would make room for Todibo’s arrival. Juventus and Nice have already pulled one deal this summer. Khephren Thuram swapped the Allianz Riviera for Turin earlier in June. Todibo could soon reunite with his former teammate as Motta bids to add to his backline.
The former Barcelona flop was on the verge of joining Manchester United last month, but the deal fell through. Juventus are now the likeliest destination for the 25-year-old. Cristiano Giuntoli has already agreed on personal terms with the player.
