Juventus Rekindle Interest in Old Target to Replace Cuadrado

Timothy Weah’s arrival from Lille won’t suffice to make up for Juan Cuadrado’s exit as Juventus gun for another right wing-back. According to Calciomercato, Cagliari’s Nahitan Nandez has returned to the Turin side’s crosshairs amid a faltering pursuit of Leicester City’s Timothy Castagne.

Castagne would be a dream signing for Juventus. However, Leicester’s €15 million asking price has put the Bianconeri off. It’s not impossible that Turin heavyweights could make another try to sign the Belgian right-back. But it’d likely require the new Championship tenants to lower their demands.

Since that’s a long shot, Juventus have rekindled their interest in Nandez. The Uruguay international is an old target for Massimiliano Allegri’s team. They tried to lure him to the Allianz Stadium a few years ago but to no avail.

At 27, the Penarol youth academy graduate is at his peak powers. So maybe it’s time to take his career to the next level. Despite helping Cagliari secure a swift Serie A return last season, he could leave Sardegna Arena this summer.

Unlike several years ago, the Sardinians are no longer in a strong bargaining position. Nandez’s contract runs out in 2024. That could help Juventus get a discount and materialize their long-term interest in the former Boca Juniors star.

Juventus were recently offered a chance to sign Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui, albeit at a high price. Nandez is a much more affordable option for Allegri’s team. And it won’t be a surprise to see the Uruguayan finally moving to Turin ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
