Juventus Set Sights on Another Lille Ace

Juventus are scouring the market for a new center-forward amid a faltering pursuit of outgoing Chelsea flop Romelu Lukaku. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Lille star Jonathan David has emerged as a number one alternative.

Lukaku’s indecisiveness over his next destination amid Chelsea’s effort to sell him to the highest bidder has caused mayhem in the market. After tarnishing his relationship with former club Inter, the Belgian seemed close to joining Juventus against the odds. However, it’s no longer the case.

The Italians have yet to find common ground with Chelsea. Moreover, Lukaku has recently had second thoughts about moving to Turin. Tired of waiting, Juventus have started searching for other targets. And David’s name has popped up, as the Bianconeri could return to doing business with Lille again.

Timothy Weah remains the club’s only summer signing. He left Les Dogues to link up with Massimiliano Allegri’s troops earlier in July. And he could be the catalyst to sway Juventus to pursue his ex-teammate’s signature.

Weah has spoken highly of the Canada international. The two spent several years together at Lille, helping the club pip Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title in 2021. Juventus could reunite them at the Allianz Stadium if Lukaku’s deal hit a brick wall.

However, David won’t come cheap. The French side may demand up to €50m to release him. It probably means Juventus would have to sell Dusan Vlahovic first.
