Juventus Set Sights on Bundesliga Star to Address Midfield Crisis

Juventus have to deal with an emergency midfield crisis after Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli found themselves stranded in off-field controversies. According to Tuttomercatoweb, Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka has drawn the Italians’ attention as Massimiliano Allegri aims to address the shortage of numbers in the engine room in January.

Soon after Pogba hit the headlines for a failed drug test, the Italian media crucified his younger colleague Fagioli over an alleged illegal betting scandal. With both players marginalized by Juventus until further notice, Allegri’s options in the midfield have dwindled.

Left with bare bones, the Juventus boss is desperate to add another quality piece to his midfield jigsaw in the upcoming transfer window. Goretzka is reportedly a player to his taste. However, negotiating his arrival with Bayern could prove a sticking point due to the high cost of the operation.

Since joining the club from Schalke 04 in 2018, the 28-year-old has become one of the club’s stalwarts. His contract at the Allianz Arena expires in 2026, while manager Thomas Tuchel keeps him in high esteem, as evidenced by his significant game time this season. All that could pose a genuine threat to the Italians’ bid to bring him to Serie A.

Another thing that could put Juventus off is Goretzka’s astronomic price tag. It’s believed the Bavarians could demand up to €50 million to sanction a move. That price tag will likely prove prohibitive for Bianconeri.

With that in mind, Juventus may want to examine other profiles.
