Juventus Set Sights on Former Inter Star to Fix Defense

Juventus are testing the waters for Milan Skriniar, who’s not playing much at PSG, ahead of January, when they’ll bring in a new defender to replace the injured Gleison Bremer. Director Cristiano Giuntoli stated they’d hunt for opportunities, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.

The Slovak has played just 111 minutes so far this season. He’s been healthy, unlike in the second half of last season, when he was demoted mostly because of an ankle injury. He has started just once in nine games.

If Juventus really wanted Skriniar, the main hurdle of a prospective loan move would be how to split his €11M wages. PSG courted him for years before convincing him to join on a Bosman move. At this stage, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, and Lucas Beraldo are ahead of him in the depth chart.

The defender addressed last summer from his national team’s camp (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“I had many options because I was told I wouldn’t be fielded as much as in previous months. I could have left on loan, but no negotiation went through in the end. I spoke with the club and decided that staying here to fight for minutes was the best choice. I’m happy even though I don’t play much. I’m waiting for my opportunity. It’s not the first time it has happened to me, and I’ve always come out of it some way. I think that will be the case again.”

Our Take on Juventus and Skriniar

The best route would be to sign somebody who could eventually pair up with Bremer in the future, but a temporary patch, probably with an option to buy, is more likely. He’d be a sound choice if he bounces back.
