Juventus are seeking new pieces to shore up their midfield and have opened contacts for Enzo Fernandez. The River Plate youngster has fully broken out this season. He has a €20M release clause in his contract, with taxes adding €5M to the potential fee.
The 21-year-old is a product of Los Millonarios’ youth academy and previously spent time on loan at Defensa y Justicia. He has made 46 appearances in domestic competitions, tallying 6 goals and 8 assists. He has two caps with the Argentina U-20.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Enzo Fernandez is on the radar of multiple clubs on top of Juventus, especially Benfica. The dynamic midfielder blossomed in 2021-2022, hitting the net 8 times and setting up 6 teammates in 20 appearances combining Copa de la Liga and Copa Libertadores. He has drawn comparisons with Barcelona’s Frenkie De Jong for his role and technique.
His agent Matias Toranzo addressed the rumors to SerieANews: “There is nothing concrete at the moment. In any case, he could leave River Plate only if somebody activated his release clause this summer.”
Our Take on Juventus Eyeing Enzo Fernandez
The Bianconeri have been linked to a few Argentinian prospects in recent years. However, they never actually managed to sign one. Their midfield is clearly in flux, and it will need a major summer overhaul to be more adequate. If Juventus stepped up their efforts to sign Enzo Fernandez, it would lend credence to the buzz suggesting that Adrien Rabiot and Weston McKennie could soon be on their way out.
