Juventus Set Sights on Wantaway Bundesliga Midfielder

Juventus are giving serious thought to the idea of landing outgoing Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria already in January. According to Il Bianconero, the record time-Italian champions consider accelerating interest in the Switzerland international to avoid the competition at the end of the season.

Massimiliano Allegri is looking to reinforce the midfield department in the winter transfer window. Adrien Rabiot, Arthur Melo, and Rodrigo Bentancur have failed to live up to expectations, forcing the Italian manager’s hand. Nicolo Rovella, who is currently on loan at Genoa, remains an option, but Juventus have other plans.

Per reports, the Bianconeri are entertaining the idea of stepping up their pursuit of Zakaria in the January transfer window. The 25-year-old midfielder has refused Gladbach’s attempts to tie him down to a new contract and will become a free agent at the end of the season. His contractual situation has placed numerous sides on red alert.

A host of Premier League clubs are interested in landing Zakaria on a Bosman deal, including Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Manchester United. However, Juventus hope to beat the competition by sending an offer to Gladbach in January.

During his four-year spell at Borussia-Park, Zakaria has grown into one of the most highly-rated midfielders in the Bundesliga. The Swiss star has registered 144 appearances since arriving from Young Boys in 2017, tallying 11 goals and eight assists in the process.

But he has no intention of extending his stay at Gladbach as he hopes to seal a high-profile move within six months. Given Juventus’ desperate need for a new box-to-box midfielder, Zakaria may not have to wait until the end of the season to secure a new challenge.
