Juventus Set to Extend Contract of Defensive Prodigy

Dean Huijsen has been a revelation for Juventus, as he earned a regular role with the Next Gen squad despite being only 17. He is a strong PK taker and has a knack for scoring. He has done it six times with the Primavera team. The center-back just bagged a brace in the return leg of the semifinals of the Serie C’s Coppa Italia against Foggia. He equalized by slaloming his way across the pitch and smashing it home from distance.

Per Goal, the Bianconeri are in advanced talks to extend his contract until 2027, adding three more years to his current one. The agreement has already been finalized. Only the official announcement is missing at this point.

Huijsen quickly caught the attention of Massimiliano Allegri, who inserted him in the Europa League list. He debuted with the first side in a December friendly against Rijeka. He was acquired from Malaga for €200k in 2021.

His father revealed to Calciomercato that Matthijs De Ligt took him under his wing when they were both at the club.

“He helped him on a few aspects and gave him some advice. It was incredible for Dean since he’s his favorite player.”

Next Gen’s coach Massimo Brambilla commented after his recent heroics to Tuttomercatoweb.

“He has to improve a lot but he has the right mentality to grow.”

Our Take on the Juventus Defense and Huijsen

If they plot to continue with a back three, the Bianconeri will have to sign a top-notch lefty to replace Alex Sandro. However, between the Dutch starlet, Empoli loanee Koni De Winter, and Federico Gatti, they’ll have depth pieces with major upside without spending.
