Juventus and Paulo Dybala will reportedly re-open talks over the Argentine’s contract extension in the coming days. According to Calciomercato, the forward’s entourage Jorge Antun will land in Turin ‘in a matter of days’ ahead of the new round of negotiations.
Not long ago, Dybala’s future looked seemingly away from Juventus. Inter and several top clubs from abroad were said to be monitoring the 28-year-old’s situation at the Allianz Stadium. However, the former Palermo star could stay put after all in the latest turn of events.
Dybala’s agent is set to hold a ‘key meeting’ with Juventus to understand the terms of the deal. The left-footed forward deemed Juve’s initial extension bid unacceptable. The record-time Serie A champions offered their star performer a £6.6million-a-year salary plus £1.65m in add-ons.
So if they are to get the deal over the line, Juventus will have to improve their bid this time around. Dybala reportedly seeks close to £8.2million-a-year to pledge his future to the Turin outfit, which would make him the highest earner in Serie A, let alone the Bianconeri.
Juve’s current highest-paid player is Matthijs de Ligt, whose annual wages stand at £6.6million-a-year. Then it comes as no surprise that Juventus are hesitant about matching Dybala’s demands.
After experiencing a couple of injury-riddled seasons, the Argentina international has re-established himself as a permanent fixture in Massimiliano Allegri’s starting line-up this season. Alongside the marquee January signing, Dusan Vlahovic, Dybala has been one of the architects of Juve’s renaissance.
Juventus looked like a doomed outfit in the first half of the season, but a series of impressive results have catapulted them into the Serie A top four. Allegri’s men even have an outside chance of stealing away the title this season, but the outcome of the Scudetto race is not in their hands.
