Juventus Speeding Up Search for a New Top Defender

With Matthijs De Ligt on the verge of joining Bayern Munich, Juventus will now focus on acquiring another elite defender. They will cash in about €85M for the ace, which will be spread around multiple purchases, also in other roles.

As per Alfredo Pedullà, the latest development is that Bremer and Nikola Milenkovic are gaining steam. The latter has just a year on his contract with Fiorentina. The Viola would let him go if a top team offered €15M. Inter are after him too, but they are prioritizing the Torino star. They could eventually add another center-back after selling Milan Skriniar to PSG.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri will have a key meeting with the Granata today. If they failed to seal the deal, Juventus would be ready to swoop in with a larger offer to both the club and the defender. He might prefer their rivals, though.

The Bianconeri have not added new options to their shortlist, which contains also Arsenal’s Gabriel and Villarreal’s Pau Torres. Monaco’s Benoit Badiashile is below the more experienced targets.

Our Take on Juventus Seeking a Quality Defender

Bremer would be a superb option, although the move to Inter would be more natural schematically. The Nerazzurri already lost Paulo Dybala and will do what they can not to miss out on another long-standing mark, but the Old Lady currently has more cash.

Milenkovic is fine but does not have a ton of upside. He would make sense in a pair, for instance with Badiashile. The reservations about him are a little silly. Torres and Gabriel would be tremendous, but the club would have to reinvest more than half of what they got for De Ligt for one of them, which is probably not going to happen.
