Juventus Starlet Matias Soulé Surprisingly Called Up by Argentina

After missing the previous matches due to injury, Paulo Dybala will return to the Argentina team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil. Joining him from Juventus will be Matias Soulé, even though he has yet to make his Serie A debut.

The 18-year-old stood out in the pre-season, but then he played just for the U-23 team afterward. He has remained scoreless in ten Serie C matches. However, he has hit the net twice in the third division’s version of the Coppa Italia. He has notched one goal and one assist in two Youth League appearances.

Soulé joined Juventus on a free transfer from Velez in January 2020. The Bianconeri bested a few European competitors, in particular Barcelona, in the race to sign him, Tuttomercatoweb reports. His whole family transferred to Turin, thus allowing the transfer under the Patria Potestad rule even though he was underage.

The attacker first started to make a name for himself internationally at a tournament with Argentina U-16. Juventus have already extended his original contract. He is now tied to the club till 2024, with two more optional years. He collected 5 goals and 5 assists in 27 matches with the Primavera in his first year in Italy.

As a left-footed right winger, Soulé naturally named Lionel Messi as his biggest idol, whom he will soon meet. In his home country, he has drawn comparisons primarily with Angel Di Maria. He is in line to get a look with the first team in easier times.
