Juventus Start to Rival Inter in Race to Onboard Tah

Inter have begun laying the groundwork to sign Jonathan Tah on a Bosman move, but Juventus are eyeing him too and have a more pressing need after losing Gleison Bremer. The Bianconeri are expected to try to add him in January, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs (via Tuttomercatoweb).

The Old Lady will need to complete a sale to have the funds for a purchase. Moreover, it remains to be seen whether Bayer Leverkusen will agree to sell him and for how much. They might prefer doing that rather than lose him for nothing since he won’t re-up. However, that’s not certain at this stage.

Moreover, Inter and Juventus would be serious contenders for Tah only if he accepted a reasonable salary, around €4/5M salary. It’s far from sure since a few deep-pocketed teams are after him. His next one won’t need to splurge on the fee to get him.

The Bianconeri will look to replicate what they did with Tiago Djaló last year. He seemed headed to their rivals at the end of his contract, but they swooped in and acquired him from Lille for a low fee in the winter instead. He didn’t get many minutes following an ACL tear, though. The defender was eventually loaned to Porto in the summer, where he continues to ride the bench.

He’ll be a fine signing for whoever wins the race. Bayern Munich figure to be in the lead after courting him last summer and thanks to their grip over Bundesliga stars. A January departure makes sense on paper, but sides don’t always act based on financial purposes only when it comes to partying ways with a staple.
