Juventus have suffered a massive injury blow ahead of their Champions League trip to the Red Bull Arena to take on RB Leipzig. According to several domestic reports, Timothy Weah has succumbed to an ankle problem, joining three more players on the sidelines.
Weah has been decent in the early stage of the season. Though he has yet to cement his place under new Juventus boss Thiago Motta, he’s been a dependable option on the right wing. However, the Bianconeri cannot call upon the USMNT forward’s services on Wednesday.
In addition to Weah, Vasilije Adzic and Arkadiusz Milik will not be part of the Juventus traveling squad. Long-term absentee Paul Pogba is not on the club’s Champions League list. But Motta has plenty of options in the midfield following an impressive summer transfer window.
Since Weah is unavailable, there’s a chance for Francisco Conceicao to make his first Champions League appearance for Juventus. The quicksilver winger got off the mark in Serie A last weekend, netting a late goal to round off Juve’s thumping 3-0 win at Genoa.
Juventus also bagged three goals in their Champions League opener against PSV Eindhoven. They won that match 3-1 and will look to add another victory to the tally in their first-ever clash against Leipzig as they bid to secure automatic knockout qualification.
Wednesday’s game in Germany will reportedly be an opportunity for Juventus to take a closer look at four Leipzig players. But they must focus on on-field proceedings to build on an impressive 2024/25 start.
