Juventus Take an Interest in Monza Standout Wingback

Juventus are keeping tabs on Monza ace Carlos Augusto as they will likely move on from Alex Sandro at the end of the season. The Brazilian has had a terrific maiden season in Serie A and has already tallied four goals and three assists.

Per La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Bianconeri especially like his versatility. While he has mostly featured as a wing-back, he can also play as a fullback and as a braccetto, similar to their current veteran. They routinely scout the Brianzoli matches to watch their loanees Nicolò Rovella and Filippo Ranocchia.

Juventus could get an assist in the Carlos Augusto chase from his contract situation. His deal expires in 2024, and the Biancorossi have struggled to come to terms with his agent Rafael Brandino. Atalanta and Inter are also reportedly eyeing the 24-year-old.

CEO Adriano Galletti spoke about the staple in a recent charity event (via SportMediaset).

“We don’t sell anybody, generally speaking. It’s pointless to talk about the transfer market now. He was already an important player beforehand since we signed him from Corinthians.”

Our Take on Juventus and Carlos Augusto

The Bianconeri often get linked to lefty wing-backs, but unless they change their coach, they’ll stick with 3-5-2, and Filip Kostic will continue to be the unquestioned starter. They’ll turn to players they already own, Andrea Cambiaso or Luca Pellegrini, to back him up and invest on the other flank.

The Brazilian can star in the back three, but it’d be a waste, as he’s not great at defending, and his forte is his activity and prowess in the final third. He’ll surely be one to watch in the summer, but not necessarily concerning Old Lady. He’d be great for Atalanta.
