Juventus target Matthias Ginter insists he will take his time to decide where he wants to go next once his contract at Borussia Monchengladbach expires in the summer. According to Calciomercato, the versatile German defender is in no hurry to commit to any rush calls amid Gladbach’s attempts to tie him down to a new contract.
Ginter has spent his entire professional career in the Bundesliga. After coming through the youth ranks at Freiburg, he joined Borussia Dortmund in 2014. The 28-year-old made a name for himself at the Signal Iduna Park before moving to Gladbach in 2017.
He has thrived at Borussia-Park over the past five years, establishing himself as one of the most highly-rated defenders in Germany’s top-flight. However, a lack of long-term project at Gladbach, coupled with a thoroughly disappointing 2021/22 Bundesliga season, has deterred Ginter from signing an extension.
The Germany international has plenty of options to choose from as numerous top European clubs keep track of him. Though several Premier League sides have expressed their interest in signing Ginter, the defender’s future could be in Serie A.
After Inter tried to capture his signature in January, Juventus are now ready to hijack the reigning champions’ pursuit of the ougtoing Gladbach star. With Leonardo Bonucci not getting any younger and Giorgio Chiellini’s retirement plans yet to be revealed, the Bianconeri are in the market for a new defender.
Juventus could wave goodbye to Matthijs de Ligt, who has emerged as a transfer target for resurgent La Liga heavyweights Barcelona. The Dutchman’s agent Mino Raiola seems keen to broker a move to Camp Nou, which would leave Massimiliano Allegri’s side exposed at the back.
De Ligt’s potential departure would inject substantial money into the club’s pockets, but Juventus are known for signing top players on free transfers. Therefore, it is hard to put it past the record-time Serie A champions to step up their pursuit of Ginter.
