Juventus Trying to Hold Onto De Ligt with Peculiar Move

Juventus will soon meet Mino Raiola to discuss multiple topics. The future of Matthijs De Ligt will be one of them. The agent hinted at his departure next summer, but the Bianconeri would like to keep him a little longer. They could make sure that happens with an extension that could satisfy both parties, Tuttosport reports.

De Ligt is under contract until 2024. Juventus will offer to attach one more year to the deal. In exchange, they will propose to lower his future release clause. As per the current agreement, the Dutchman would be free to go if a team offered €120M come July.

According to the publication, the 22-year-old defender is not eager to depart and does not consider his cycle at Juventus to be over. His desire could help the team in the talks. However, the negotiation will also hinge on what the plans of his agent are. There would be no shortage of deep-pocketed suitors should be De Ligt be made available.

The move would allow Juventus to forgo the search for a new starting-caliber defender next summer. Giorgio Chiellini re-upped for two seasons after the Euro, and Leonardo Bonucci is not going anywhere. Daniele Rugani’s deal expires in 2023.

The Bianconeri inquired about Alessio Romagnoli, who is also assisted by Raiola. However, the Italian center-back is currently prioritizing the extension talks with Milan, Alfredo Pedullà reports. He would actively look for a new team only if it were impossible to come to terms with the Rossoneri.
