Juventus Veteran Defender to Miss a Few Games Due to Injury

Giorgio Chiellini suffered another muscular injury and will sit out some critical matches. The defender subbed off with 20 minutes to go versus Verona. The club announced that he sustained a low-grade left calf strain earlier today.

According to Sky Sport, Chiellini will miss approximately three weeks. He will be on the mend at least for the upcoming clash with Atalanta, the Derby della Mole, and the first leg of the Champions League clash against Villarreal on February 22nd.

Chiellini will try to get back into shape for the second leg versus El Submarino Amarillo and especially the World Cup playoffs with Italy in late March, La Repubblica informs. Juventus will lean on Matthijs De Ligt, Leonardo Bonucci, and Daniele Rugani in the upcoming tilts. The other veteran was available off the bench last Sunday. He had been out for a month with an injury of his own.

Physical problems have frequently hit Chiellini this season, even though the coaching staff handled him with care. He has started two consecutive matches just three times this season. The defender missed time due to a sore Achilles in November. He was sidelined by COVID-19 and a thigh ailment in late December. He has logged 16 seasonal appearances for a total of 1099 minutes.

According to the Italian newspaper, Juventus might not face Gerard Moreno in the first Villarreal bout because of a similar type of issue. The Spanish striker has often had to battle a balky calf in 2021-2022 as well.
