Kalulu Gets Medicals and Signs Paperwork for Juventus

Pierre Kalulu reached Turin to take the medicals and put pen to paper with Juventus on Wednesday, with a one-day delay on the schedule after he accepted the transfer after mulling it at length. The two teams had quickly come to terms on the formula and the figures. He’ll earn €2.5M until 2029 if he’s bought out, Mediaset reports.

The Rossoneri needed to open up room in their list after their defensive additions. The Old Lady had been searching for a defender after striking out for Riccardo Calafiori and Jean-Clair Todibo, who moved to the Premier League for giant fees.

Kalulu received reassurances about his role and future at Juventus before giving his thumbs-up. He didn’t have doubts about the destination per se but rather because of the initial loan and his prospective playing time.

The Frenchman will compete with Federico Gatti, Danilo, and Juan Cabal. Thiago Motta can move some pieces around the defense. He didn’t have a steady role with the Rossoneri last season, which signed Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal to fortify their rearguard. They had brought him in for €1M for Olympique Lyonnais a few years ago. He’ll be a major ‘plusvalenza’ if he departs permanently. They are profiting from the loan fee already.

Our Take on Juventus Signing Kalulu

It’s a deal with very little downside for the Bianconeri. They’ll jettison him back to San Siro if he doesn’t stay healthy or fares poorly, but he has a chance of becoming a steal. Giorgio Furlani and co. would have certainly preferred selling Malick Thiaw for a large bid after their additions, but it evidently didn’t arrive. Still, they’d still be able to cash in the Frenchman in the future if he returned.
