Kalulu Talks Napoli Loss, Milan Repeat Bid and Maldini

Pierre Kalulu revisited the defeat against Napoli, discussed Milan’s ambitions, and his future in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Some details made all the difference Sunday. We couldn’t get the three points, but not everything was bad. You learn from losses. Stefano Pioli tells us every day that it will be harder to win the Scudetto this season. It’s up to us to prove that we are the reigning champions. I’m convinced it will be a tight race until the end. We want to prevail again.”

The defender opened up about his move to the Rossoneri.

“It’s striking to receive a call from Paolo Maldini. I saw him play at the end of his career, even though I’m young. The funny thing is that the roles were reserved. I tried to stay a little detached, while he was attempting to convince me. He told me that he was fully confident I would grow and find room in the first team, and that’s what happened. He’s very present, but he doesn’t overstep the coach.”

Kalulu delayed the extension talks to the future.

“If everything keeps going as it is, meaning that we are successful and I’m starting, my only desire would be to continue with Milan. But there will be time to discuss the contract with the executives down the line. I want to build my own story and become one of the best in the world.”

The youngster went on to praise his coach.

“At these levels, it’s not ordinary for a manager to involve everybody. I appreciate the intensity in training and the healthy competition. He’s a good motivator. We are young but we are improving a lot thanks to him.”
