Rick Karsdorp ultimately stayed put in January, as Roma didn’t find a team that would sign him outright. He’s about to be reintegrated into the rotation after being excluded due to an edict by José Mourinho.
His agent Joahn Henkes confirmed it in an interview with De Telegraaf (via Quotidiano Nazionale).
“There was a dark moment after the Sassuolo game, but he and Mourinho kept working together in a professional manner. These situations happen in top-level sports, even if people disagree on some matters. They discussed everything at length, in detail, and multiple times. They are confident to be able to finish the season well.”
The representative didn’t like how the matter was handled overall.
“It should have been settled behind closed doors. Karsdorp never said that he no longer wanted to play for Roma. On the contrary, that’s what he likes the most. He resumed being in form and available this week. He wants to fight again with his teammate and for this side, which has a lot at stake.”
“If that wasn’t the case, he would have stopped starring for them right away. The examples are numerous in that regard. He’s not a traitor, and that’s not how the club, the staff, or the other players see him either. They want to have him back in the squad and in good shape.”
According to Ansa, both Karsdorp and Leonardo Spinazzola, who has missed time with a thigh strain, will be called up for Thursday’s Europa League tilt against RB Salzburg. The Dutchman also needed to shake off a recent injury.
