Keylor Navas Thanks Napoli for Their Summer Interest

Keylor Navas made it official that he will continue playing at PSG and not join Napoli. Despite the window being closed, there was technically still time for him to terminate his contract and sign with a new team before it submitted its Champions League squad list.

The Costa Rican international announced it on Instagram.

“After a summer filled with great uncertainty, the time has come to thank the clubs that were interested in me and showed appreciation for my work and my career. It’s a source of pride to feel so loved and receive that kind of support. I will continue to work hard in Paris, without losing confidence, helping the team as much as I can, without surrendering and always giving my best day after day.”

New PSG coach Christophe Galtier announced earlier in the summer that Gianluigi Donnarumma would be the starter. Napoli tried to onboard Keylor Navas on a free move, but he couldn’t ultimately agree to a severance package. The attempt for a loan spell was also in vain, as the shot-stopper didn’t like such formula, Corriere dello Sport reports. They could try again in January.

Alex Meret will be the top option. His camp and the Azzurri had agreed to a five-year extension before the summer, but he didn’t sign it to see what the club would do on the market. The Partenopei will reprise the talks soon.

Our Take on Napoli Missing out on Keylor Navas

Such signing would have given them a proven champion between the sticks, while they will have to hope the youngster stays the course after a strong start now. Salvatore Sirigu is a fine backup, but things would get ugly if the starter unraveled.
