Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s agent, Mamuka Jugeli, dropped a bombshell on Sunday when he announced his client’s desire to leave Napoli this summer. The Partenopei winger had an interview with Sky Sport Italia after Georgia lost 3-1 to Turkey in their first-ever game at the European Championships on Wednesday.
Asked point-blank whether he’ll commit his future to Napoli, the 23-year-old refused to provide a straightforward answer. Instead, he said he’d decide his next step after Euro 2024 amid talks linking him with a blockbuster switch to perennial Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
“I feel good. I am focused only on the Euros and giving my all in this tournament,” the Napoli talisman said, as quoted by Gianluca Di Marzio. “I will decide my future after that, but right now, I am not thinking about anything other than this competition and the present.
“I don’t want to take into consideration all the things being said around.“
Napoli wasted no time responding to Kvaratskhelia’s agent’s flamboyant statement, shutting down the Georgian camp’s exit request hours after it hit the surface. However, if the ex-Dinamo Batumi forward decides to his agent’s suggestion, Aurelio De Laurentiis may be powerless to prevent his star player’s departure.
If it comes to that, Napoli will probably look to extract as much money as possible. It might take north of €100 million to persuade De Laurentiis to green-light Kvaratskhelia’s transfer. Despite PSG’s genuine interest in the winger, they’re reportedly unwilling to go beyond €60m to get the deal over the line.
