Kim Min-Jae Focused Only on Napoli Amid Renewal Talks

Defenders have long been known to be just support cast, relative to the function of forwards and playmakers, who score goals and win matches. But needless to say, Luciano Spalletti’s Napoli have had all-round performers – with South Korean defender Kim Min-Jae experiencing an exceptional maiden season in the sky blue colors. And naturally, Napoli want to keep hold of their prized stopper.

Similar to the offer pondered for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the upper management is hellbent on keeping the ex-Fenerbahce man as well with a contract extension.

As per Corriere dello Sport, Kim’s €2.5M net per season wages are expected to increase along with the duration of his contract, which is currently scheduled to expire in 2025. However, it is his release clause that sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli and president Aurelio De Laurentiis want to strengthen.

The hard-headed center-back’s current clause lies at €45M, but there is expected to be a €20-25M increase in a bid to distract attention amongst European heavyweights such as Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Spalletti’s defense is one of Europe’s best, and Min-Jae has been absolutely instrumental in restricting their defeats to a minimum – having faced just three losses this campaign.
