Kvaratskhelia Not on the Same Page with Napoli Brass Yet

Antonio Conte and Aurelio De Laurentiis emphatically stated that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Giovanni Di Lorenzo would stay at Napoli during the latter’s unveiling. They’ll have some convincing to do, as the Georgian star cast more doubts on his future. He spoke to Rai after his national team’s historic qualification to Euro 2024’s Round of 16 (via Fantacalcio).

“It was tough. It was our dream. Every player has been extraordinary. We proved we can measure up against anybody. I swapped jerseys with Cristiano Ronaldo as I wished. It’s the best day of my life.”

Kvaratskhelia was quizzed about the remarks of the new Napoli boss.

“I don’t know if I’ll stay yet. I respect the club and him because he’s one of the best coaches in the world. However, I want to take some more time before deciding. I love Naples, but I can’t say for certain yet.”

During the presser, De Laurentiis had a not-so-subtle dig toward PSG, suggesting they reached out to the player directly without going through them.

Our Take on Napoli and Kvaratskhelia

Despite his words and those of his entourage, which were a lot more incendiary, it still feels like something that could be solved through a much-deserved new contract and a significant pay raise. Hopefully for the Azzurri, a face-to-face meeting with Conte will get things in order. It’d be a big bummer otherwise. If things went sideways, they should exploit PSG’s interest and large finances to take the Victor Osimhen problem off their hands.
