Departing Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe has shown great admiration for Serie A runners-up Milan. Ahead of his impending move to Real Madrid, the France international named the Rossoneri his childhood dream in an interview with Sky Sports.
“Italian football? You never know what happens,” Mbappe said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano. “I was always saying: if I go to Italy one day, I will go to Milan. As a kid, I was a big fan of the Rossoneri, and I always watched their every Serie A game.
“All my family, massive Milan fans!“
Mbappe’s words must have tickled the imagination of every Milan supporter. However, a deal is simply not feasible at the moment. Even though the 2018 World Cup winner is about to leave the Parc des Princes as a free agent, his wages are well beyond the Rossoneri’s reach.
On top of that, he already has an agreement with Real Madrid. His switch to the Santiago Bernabeu is a mere formality. It’s still flattering to hear such high praise from one of the world’s best, as it ignites hope and excitement among Milan supporters, even if the reality of the situation points to a different outcome.
Perhaps in a parallel universe, Mbappe would’ve been Olivier Giroud’s heir at Milan. Unfortunately, money dictates the harsh realities of football transfers, and the Italians cannot compete with the financial prowess of European superpowers such as Real Madrid.
Yet, as Mbappe pointed out – in the future, who knows?
