Lasse Schone Terminates Contract with Genoa

After year and a half, Lasse Schone and Genoa have mutually agreed to part ways, the club announced on Thursday. The ex-Ajax midfielder was welcomed triumphally in August of 2019, but his first season was not particularly satisfying. He was frozen out from the squad ahead of the 2020/2021 as the team did not find a taker in the short transfer market window and opted to rely on other options in his role, such as Milan Badelj, Valon Behrami and Ivan Radovanovic.

His agent Revien Kanhai discussed the decision to Dutch publication Voetbal International: “He is in top-top shape, he managed to train to the best of his capabilities every day and he wants to return on the pitch in the upcoming months in order to earn his spot in the Danish national team ahead of Euro 2021.”

“Coach Davide Ballardini wanted to involve him in the second half of the campaign, but we had already reached agreement with the front office and we preferred to rescind the contract. He wants to prove his worth and resume playing at high levels. I am receiving daily calls from multiple teams, but he wants to make the right decision. He has gotten from requests from other Italian teams, but also Belgian and English ones and I would not find a return to Ajax illogical. But we will not rush things.

Sky Sport linked him to Torino, Parma and Cagliari, all sides looking for a deep-lying playmaker. He notched two goals and three assists in his first season in the Peninsula.
