Lautaro Martinez Happy at Inter, Says Agent

Lautaro Martinez’s agent Beto Yaque gave an interview to Argentinian newspaper Olé and silenced the buzz about his client eyeing a move to Barcelona: “He is fine where he is. He has three years left on his contract, who wants him has to talk with Inter. He is happy and serene in Milan. He is playing and improving.”

“The most important thing is that he got accustomed to European football very rapidly. In the first year after he joined, he often scored off the bench, so the people immediately noticed his quality. He has won everybody over for what he gives on the pitch, the fans are very fond of him and that helped him showcase his value. He has enormous potential and could become an elite player.”

Our view

The COVID-19 pandemic, the uncertainty regarding the future of Lionel Messi and Josep Bartomeu’s resignation have significantly pumped the breaks on Martinez’s rumored move to Barcelona, which gained some real traction at various points of the last two years.

His €111M release clause lapsed in July, therefore any club will have to negotiate with the Nerazzurri to acquire him. Inter are in a clear position of strength and should take advantage of the favorable situation to extend his contract given that he is making peanuts compared to his contribution on the pitch and what other top strikers earn around Europe. Other rich clubs will remain threats to lure him away until that happens.
